After putting on a plyometric showcase for fans, Manny Pacquiao took a day off from the Wild Card gym on Friday afternoon.
Rest days have become more common throughout this camp, as the 40-year-old fighter preserves his body.
Pacquiao is preparing to battle Keith Thurman on July 20 in Las Vegas.
This week, Pacquiao rested all day on Tuesday and skipped his morning run on Wednesday before doing a light media day workout.
“It’s been great,” said strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune. “It’s Manny. He realized he needs to listen to his body and that if he?s tired he?ll rest; if he?s not, he’ll go all out.”
Fortune believes this form of load management, which began last year, will eventually extend Pacquiao’s career.
“It?s prolonged him for great fights that for sure he?s already,” Fortune said.
“He’s already done that ever since (Lucas) Matthysse). It?s smart training instead of doing tons of training. He?s just training smart.”
