Juan Manuel Marquez thinks he knows Manny Pacquiao too well that there?s really no need to review fight videos of his Filipino opponent.
?Not very often I see (fight) videos of my rivals, and more of (even) Pacquiao who I already faced and know perfectly,? the world super-featherweight champion told Mexican paper Esto yesterday.
Marquez, holder of the WBC belt, thinks there?s very little use reviewing fight videos of one?s opponents because boxers normally change styles and adjust depending on their next fight.
?Boxers change styles from one fight to another, and there?s little to observe of Manny,? said Marquez, scheduled for a huge rematch with Pacquiao at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on March 15.
Instead, Marquez is relying on a strict training regimen, which started shortly before Christmas. Reports said he even reported to the gym on Christmas day, not a common practice for boxers.
The Pacquiao camp, however, believes otherwise.
Buboy Fernandez, the Filipino trainer of Pacquiao, yesterday said he?s been reviewing fight videos of Marquez for almost a month now.
?Since December I?ve gathered videos of Marquez and I?ve watched them,? said Fernandez, childhood friend and long-time trainer of Pacquiao.
Fernandez said he has 2006 videos of Marquez against Chris John (the last fighter to beat the Mexican), Terdsak Jandaeng and Filipino Jimrex Jaca.
?We?re starting with these fights. Then we will move on to (2007) Marquez fights against (Marco Antonio) Barrera, Rocky Juarez and against Pacquiao,? he said.
After four days of training in Gen. Santos City, Pacquiao flew back to Manila last Saturday as he prepares for tonight?s PAL flight to Los Angeles where he will train for eight weeks under Freddie Roach.
On Tuesday, Los Angeles time, Pacquiao and Marquez will come face-to-face for the first time since their 2004 draw. They will attend a press conference formally unveiling the ?Unfinished Business? card.
Marquez will take a break from his training as he flies to LA from Mexico on Monday, but should be back in his headquarters the day after the media presentation.
