Reigning World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight regular champion is thankful to Bob Arum?s reminders about the risk of possible brain injury for his upcoming fight with unbeaten Keith Thurman.
But Pacquiao believes that God is always good to him all the time.
A few hours before his departure for Los Angeles on Saturday night, Pacquiao was not bothered by the warning made by former promoter Top Rank Promotion CEO Arum regarding the possible brain damages caused by the boxing sport as the fighter gets older.
Advertisements ?God is good all the time,? Pacquiao (61-7-2 win-loss-draw record with 39 knockouts) told The Manila Times when asked about Arum?s earlier statement about the risk of possible brain injury in his fight against 30-year-old Thurman (29-0 record with 22 knockouts).
?That?s boxing but God is always there to protect me and there?s nothing to worry about,? he said.
Pacquiao, the eight-division world titleholder, told even reporters in his last day of Manila training late Saturday afternoon at the Elorde gym Pasay City that the boxer?s safety still depends on the fighter himself in how he prepares and conditions his body.
?I?m really thankful but it depends on the boxer if how he takes cares of his body and how he trains. The preparation should be enough even he?s 40-year-old or more than in order to do what he wants at the top of the ring,? said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is set to open his one month US training camp this coming week at Freddie Roach?s Wildcard gym in Hollywood, California together with chief trainer and coach Buboy Fernandez and strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune, among others.
Meanwhile, Fortune explained that plyometrics exercises are very crucial part of maintaining Pacquiao?s speed, power and explosiveness for his upcoming welterweight war with the WBA welterweight super world titleholder Thurman on July 20 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He explained that plyometric exercises have helped Pacquiao maintain his incredible speed and power despite the age for the last two world title fights against Lucas Matthysse and Adrien Broner.
