Manny Pacquiao is not falling behind in training for his March 15 rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez.
Barely hours after quietly slipping into the country yesterday morning from a weeklong family break in the US, the flamboyant boxing superstar broke sweat at the Wild Card Gym in Para?aque.
Pacquiao spent more than an hour at the BF Homes gym owned by his former business manager Rod Nazario, sweating it out and shaking off the holiday mood.
Pacquiao, a close friend said, plans to drop by at the gym daily until he flies back to the US before Jan. 15, the day he?s scheduled to report for a two-month training.
The boxer said he?s excited to get things done with Marquez at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas as he looks forward to a year even better than the previous ones.
Pacquiao said he?s eyeing a July showdown with WBC lightweight champion David Diaz, then a November date with Ricky Hatton. But first he must get past Marquez.
And he?s confident that he would.
Marquez, the reigning WBC super-featherweight champion, has reportedly gone into training even during Christmas, making sure that he?ll be in his fittest form for Pacquiao.
From the gym, Pacquiao met some friends at a five-star hotel in Manila, and was scheduled to grace the Manila Filmfest awarding ceremonies later in the night.
Pacquiao spent Christmas with his family and trainer Freddie Roach in Boracay, and left for the US before the New Year celebrations for more quality time with his wife and three kids.
