AMIR KHAN was unable to continue after being caught with a vicious body shot by Terence Crawford in their WBO welterweight world title fight, and boxing fans were infuriated.
The Bolton star was up against it in New York and was the heavy underdog going into the fight, and it showed from the first round.
After rushing in, he was caught by a straight right hand and a left hook and was sent crashing to the canvas.
After rising to his feet, he looked unsteady at the end of the round, but managed to survive.
However, he wasn?t out of danger yet, and was consistently hit by Crawford who appeared to be exercising his will in the fight and connecting whenever he pleased.
In the sixth round, with Khan behind on all scorecards, he was hit with a mincing low blow, and slotted back to his corner.
After deliberating with head trainer Virgil Hunter, it was decided that he could not continue, despite not having taken his permitted five minutes.
Crawford retained his world title and remains unbeaten, as he looks to set up a clash with Errol Spence Jr.
Boxing fans were enraged online, and Khan was referred to as a ?coward?.
