IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. shot his shot after he manhandled Mikey Garcia in a gross size mismatch last month in Arlington, Texas on FOX PPV.
With WBA “regular” champion and boxing legend Manny Pacquiao in attendance, Spence called out the icon and tried to lure him into a big-money PPV bout. Pacquiao half-heartedly accepted but didn’t seem overly interested. Just last week Pacquiao posted a poll asking fans who he should fight next. He didn’t even include Spence’s name among the options.
On Monday, FOX Sports’ Mike Coppinger reported Spence is now on a “collision course” with WBC welterweight champion Shawn Porter.

If Coppinger’s report is true, I guess Spence will have to do his part in getting cousins, aunts, and uncles to attend the event that is reportedly being targeted for September.
Some criticized Spence for going after a 40-year-old Pacquiao. Spence’s list of opponents doesn’t read like a murderer’s row of top 147-pounders. A potentially broken and weight-cut depleted Kell Brook is the toughest opponent Spence has faced. A big-hearted, but outgunned Chris van Heerden is second with the skilled, but severely undersized Garcia coming in third.
Even with that rather modest resume, Spence is still getting the respect of a pound-for-pound contender from most in the boxing community.
