IF EVERYTHING falls into place, American cornerman Freddie Roach will call the shots when Manny Pacquiao battles Fahsan 3K Battery of Thailand on Dec. 11 at The Fort in Taguig.
“I was told that Freddie might be able to make it because the fight of one of his boxers (Fil-Am flyweight Brian Viloria) will no longer take place,” Nazario said yesterday.
“Freddie has expressed willingness to come over and I would like him to be here two weeks before the fight,” added Nazario.
The 3K Battery bout is going to be used by Pacquiao as a buildup for his Feb. 26, 2005 rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico in Las Vegas.
A former featherweight contender back in the 1980s, Roach started training Pacquiao in mid-2001 and is widely credited for turning the Filipino southpaw from a crude banger into a skillful puncher.
The 44-year-old Roach also used to train former undisputed world heavyweight king Mike Tyson and is currently involved in the career of another heavyweight contender, James Toney.
There is also a plan to send in cutman Lenny De Jesus, who has been with Team Pacquiao since Nov. 2003. De Jesus, originally from Puerto Rico, resides in New Jersey.
Meanwhile, an Argentine or an American will be flown over to the country to face super-flyweight Z Gorres underneath the Pacquiao-3K Battery headliner.
Gorres, a prot?g? of Tony Aldeguer and Rudy Salud, spent almost two months of training at the Wild Card.
“I want somebody who will push Gorres to the limit,” said Salud.
Putting up the card is Pacquiao?s promoter Murad Muhammad with Smart Communications, Solar Sports and Taguig Mayor Freddie Tinga backing up the event.
