Madison Square Garden, New York – In a battle of undefeated fighters, WBA, IBF lightweight champion Katie Taylor (12-0, 5 KOs) won an easy ten round unanimous decision over Eva Wahlstrom (22-1-1, 3 KOs). All three judges had it 110-90.
A match of former foes, as Taylor had beaten Wahlstrom six times in the amateurs.
Taylor was coming in off the back of a one-sided decision victory over Cindy Serrano.
Taylor was far more active in the first round, outboxing Wahlstrom. They were becoming more active in the second and third, with Taylor being more accurate with her punches.
Wahlstrom was trying to keep the fight at a close distance in the fourth and fifth, looking to trade punches with Taylor on the inside. Taylor outlanding and outworking Wahlstrom as they fought in close.
They were trading in bunches during the sixth. Taylor continued to dominate with her output and accuracy. Wahlstrom wasn’t doing much to change the tide of the fight.
After controlling the seventh, Taylor began to hunt Wahlstrom down in the eight. There was a clash of heads in that round that opened up a cut on the forehead of Wahlstrom.
In the ninth, Taylor was unloading with punches and going for a knockout victory. Wahlstrom, who appeared to suffer another cut, was holding on to survive and moving around the ring. Taylor continued to dominate in the tenth, looking to stop Wahlstrom, but couldn’t get it done.
