Donaire to resume Cebu training after Christmas

AFTER a hard time getting down to the flyweight limit, Nonito Donaire is making sure he won?t have to go through that ordeal again and he won?t be putting any ?holiday weight.?

Donaire will resume his training in the famed ALA gym in Cebu City after he spends his Christmas with his family.

The International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization champion will resume his training, despite an injury in his hand, so he won?t bulk up.

During his first title defense against Luis Maldonado, which he won by eight-round TKO, Donaire weighed as much as 140 pounds a month before the fight and had to lose some 28 pounds to make the limit.

?I?m bringing all my stuff so a week or two after, I?m going to start training again,? Donaire said in a report posted in philboxing.com

The main concern of the Filipino champion is to heal his injured hand before he can really do extensive training.

?I probably need another month before I could really start doing a lot of things but at the same time when I get there I am going to do running, shadow boxing because I don?t want to get too big,? said Donaire.

Donaire is coming to the Philippines not just to spend Christmas but also to visit his sick grandfather.

?My grandfather is ailing right now. I dedicated my last fight to him and I don?t know when he?ll see me fight again and how long we?ll have. We want to be with him as long as we can and he can live on. We want to be there and support him because he was looking for my Mom and at the same time I?m going to train,? he said.

Donaire isn?t sure when his next title defense is and said it is up to promoter Gary Shaw when he will fight next. (EKA)
