BEFORE everything blows out of proportion, world flyweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr. wants to make it clear that he revealed his qualms about his promoter to eventually sort things out within their team.
In an interview with the BusinessMirror, Donaire said he will always acknowledge the fact that it was his promoter Gary Shaw and manager Cameron Dunkin who helped him reach where he is right now.
?I will never discredit Gary for what he did for my career. I owe a lot to him. Like what I?ve said before, there were just some miscommunication and we?re willing to sit down and talk,? said Donaire. ?I?m very appreciative of what he?s done for my career, without him I would never have gotten here. I?m not discrediting him.?
Critics have inundated several internet blogs and forums lambasting both Shaw and Donaire regarding their issue.
Two days ago, Donaire revealed through the daily morning radio program Sports Chat about his displeasure with the way his promoter handled their agreement.
Donaire revealed his unhappiness with the way they got their plane bookings, hotel and venue tickets.
The BusinessMirror could not contact Shaw, but he later sent an e-mail stating his availability this morning for the same radio program to air his side on the matter.
Shaw, however, was interviewed in one boxing web site where he also expressed his disappointment with Donaire?s action.
?I?m disappointed because I like Nonito Donaire very much. I believe in him and that I tried my hardest to do the right thing for my fighters,? said Shaw.
Shaw said he knew that something was wrong with Donaire before the fight and that he made himself available soon after his promotion last weekend concluded.
?He can?t tell you that I was not available. I was the last person to leave that press conference other than the security and the people cleaning up,? said Shaw. ?He won?t return my call. His problem is with his manager, not with his promoter.?
Though Donaire wants to sit down and talk, he also made it clear that he trusts his manager.
?My trust is with my manager. Whatever he says goes for me. We?ve been through a lot, there were a lot of people who didn?t believe in us in the beginning,? said Donaire. ?It?s a simple fact that there were some misunderstandings. In the end, it worked well.?
Donaire claims he was not supported by Shaw in their plan to set-up their training camp in Cebu apart from being told about the confirmation of their opponent with only a month to go before his December 2 title defense.
