NEW YORK CITY ? Manny Pacquiao is not totally getting rid of Freddie Roach as he the told the New York media on Monday that he will tap the Hall of Fame trainer as training supervisor for his January 2019 fight with Adrien Broner. ?He will supervise my training,? said Pacquiao at the Gotham Hall during the first leg of a two-city press tour.
While Roach would still have a role in the training camp, his involvement will be limited as the guy who will call the shots during the eight-week buildup will be longtime friend Buboy Fernandez.
Fernandez assumed the role of lead trainer when Pacquiao beat up Argentine Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur.
Pacquiao and Fernandez are flying back to the Philippines on Wednesday for the first phase of the training and are expected to begin the US stage in late-December.
Broner, a four-division champion, is someone ?not to be underestimated,? according to Pacquiao, who insists that he has to be ?100 percent.?
From here, Pacquiao will fly to Los Angeles for the second and final stop of the promotional tour.
