CEBU CITY ? Filipino prizefighter Alvin Lagumbay makes his first-ever defense of his World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific welterweight title when he faces an old foe in Keita Obara of Japan on 8 August at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
The 23-year old pride of Bukidnon has a career record of 10 wins and two losses with nine coming by way of knockout, including that of Obara whom he crushed in the second round last year in Japan.
The rematch is under the Diamond Glove Fuji Boxing Promotion and will be aired via the Fuji TV.
On the other hand, Obara still believes that the Filipino puncher robbed him despite sending him to the canvass twice en route to the convincing victory.
This rematch is very interesting.
The 31-year old Obara is coming in with a record of 19 wins, three losses and one draw and is taller by an inch compared to Lagumbay.
He is a proven warrior with a total bout of 116 rounds under his belt while Lagumbay is a sparkplug who is used to compete in short bouts with only 33 rounds.
Meanwhile, Japanese Taiki Minamoto and Tatsuya Otsubo dispute for the featherweight crown when the clash in the undercard.
Minamoto has a 15-5-0 with 12 knockouts while Otsubo has a record of 12-8-1 with four knockouts.
