Boxing Promoter Arum Says ‘Pacquiao-De La Hoya Fight Possible’

A dream fight is being thought up in Manila, between the two ‘Kings of Pay per view’ ? Oscar De la Joya and Manny Pacquiao. Bob Arum of Top Rank boxing told radio listeners Monday that both camps’ managers “like the idea,” but Arum says it wasn’t his and it has been passed around the boxing world for about a month now. “I’m not the genius of that idea” he said, interviewed on Manila based DZSR Sports Radio 918. “The media likes it, so I presented it to Richard Shaeffer, of Golden Boy, and they like it too.”

The fight, between the PAC-MAN and currently controversial De La Hoya whose alleged “fishnet soft porn photos” have become the butt of jokes in the boxing world, “raises eyebrows,” as both boxers are in different fighting weight classes. De La Hoya, has been active in four weight classes but mostly is known for the middleweight 154-pound class. He began his career though as a super featherweight or 130 lbs class. Which is the weight class that Manny Pacquiao fought in when he defeated Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas in October. The two fighters might meet up as welterweights or in the 147 weight class.

Arum admits he likes the idea and that while still in the early stages, a Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight “is possible”, and the PACMAN could get a ‘huge paycheck’ if ever it goes through. Arum notes that two options in the cards for Pacquiao’s March fights are either against David Diaz, WBC lightweight title holder, or Juan Manuel Marquez, the reigning World Boxing Council super featherweight champ.
