LAS VEGAS ? Terence “Bud” Crawford is now a three-division world champion.
The unbeaten Omahan (33-0) improved to 11-0 in world title bouts with a victory over Australian Jeff Horn (18-1-1) Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to win the WBO welterweight championship.
Crawford controlled the fight throughout and and knocked out Horn in the ninth round.
The victory cemented Crawford’s status as one of the best fighters in the world as he added a 147-pound championship to his first title at lightweight (135) and his four at junior welterweight (140).
Crawford became only the fifth fighter in the 30-year history of the WBO, the youngest of the four major sanctioning bodies of boxing, to win its version of the world championship in three weight divisions.
Saturday’s bout was Crawford’s debut at welterweight. He entered the fight as an overwhelming favorite to beat Horn, who became the WBO champion by upsetting Manny Pacquiao last summer.
