Sultan, Nietes arrive in LA

Mandatory challenger Jonas Sultan, who challenges reigning champion Jerwin Ancajas in the first all-Filipino world title fight in 100 years on May 26, arrived in Los Angeles yesterday, eager to enter the next stage of his buildup.

Three weeks before facing Ancajas for the International Boxing Federation 115-lb crown at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, Sultan finally set foot on American soil for the first time after a 12-hour flight from Manila via Philippine Airlines.

On Monday (Tuesday in the Philippines), Sultan will report for training at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, the training headquarters of ALA Boxing standouts whenever they are in the US.

?We are ready to start training at the Wild Card?everything will be done there, including sparring,? said Sultan, the clear underdog against Ancajas, who will be making the fifth defense of the title he won in 2016.

Also with Sultan in the trip were three-division champion Donnie Nietes and top trainer Edmond Villamor.

Nietes is also slated to face another Filipino, Aston Palicte, sometime in July, for the vacant World Boxing Organization super-fly crown.
