Sultan goes full blast in training

Jonas Sultan, the mandatory challenger to Jerwin Ancajas? International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight crown on May 26 in Fresno, California, has entered the most crucial phase of his buildup.

Reporting from his homebase of Cebu City, Sultan told the Bulletin that his sparring partners include fast-rising KJ Cataraja and Joy Formentera.

?Hard training,? Sultan said with a month remaining before his shot at Ancajas? IBF 115-lb title, a matchup that will see two Filipinos vying for a world title for the first time in almost a century.

Top Rank chief Bob Arum said Fresno, California, will host the much-awaited match.

Sultan, the clear underdog, said he has gone 12 rounds in sparring and is leaving no stone unturned in his bid to ruin Ancajas? plans.

Sultan and his training team will fly to the US in the first week of May.

Ancajas, who is likewise immersed in training in Magallanes, Cavite, will depart for the US on May 15, according to lead trainer Joven Jimenez.
