BELFAST, Northern Ireland?It will be a make-or-break fight for the come-backing Nonito Donaire Jr. when the “Filipino Flash” faces hometown favorite Carl Frampton at SSE Arena in this city on Saturday (early Sunday morning, Manila time).
Donaire is excited despite being labeled an underdog, showing no signs of slowing down.
At 35 years old, he looks strong and determined to win big.
Donaire arrived here over the weekend and started light workouts in preparation for the World Boxing Organization interim world featherweight title bout.
Donaire is confident he can overcome the odds against Frampton, 31.
Donaire is coming off a unanimous-decision win over Ruben Garcia Hernandez of Mexico in San Antonio, Texas last September.
“Mas malakas pa ako kay Frampton, mas mabilis pa ko, mas matangkad at saka ang-ano lang nila ay may edad na’ko kaya nilagay ako underdog, but its just a matter of working hard,” said Donaire, a former champion in 4 weight divisions.
Win or lose, Donaire is not thinking of retiring.
“I know I have a lot of years to come, unless of course my skills had been diminished then it’s not safe for me, then you see me hang up the gloves, but as of now I am capable of beating a lot of the guys . . . big, big chance of winning the fight Saturday,” Donaire said, adding that he does not want to predict a possible knockout and saying this could only add pressure on him.
The Donaire-Frampton fight will air live on SKY Sports Pay-Per-View on April 22 at 2:30 a.m., with same-day replays at 6 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 4 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.
The fight will also air on ABS-CBN S+A on April 22 at 6:30 p.m.
