The New Zealander?s promoter, David Higgins, claimed Parker elected to remedy the issues while the two teams negotiated next Saturday?s heavyweight unification bout at the end of last year.
“We’re pretty transparent, we’ve got nothing to hide, especially given it was so damn successful,” Higgins told Sky Sports.
“We were negotiating while Joseph was having surgery, but now seems like an opportune time to end speculation and front foot the issue.”
In a newly-released video, the 26-year-old?s surgeon, Dr Craig Ball, shed some light on the procedure.
?I?ve been a professional orthopaedic shoulder and elbow specialist for over 15 years so this is very common surgery for me to do,? Dr Ball explained.
?It was remarkable what he was able to do before he needed the operation, particularly with his boxing, giving the findings we have from the CT and the time of surgery.
?A very unusual thing that I?ve observed is how quickly he was able to get better afterwards and obviously the aim was to improve the range of motion.
?But more importantly, in my professional opinion, I think that by losing that impingement pain that he would have had, that will probably give him a little bit more speed and probably power with his punch, too.
?He?s not having that pain limiting him every time he?s trying to throw something.?
The timing of the announcement has surprised many, with the biggest fight of Parker?s career little more than a week away.
