THE International Boxing Federation beefs up its intention to pit Filipino southpaw Z ?The Dream? Gorres against the Armenian-born Australian Vic ?The Raging Bull? Darchinyan for an eliminator bout for the super flyweight division.
Yesterday, championship committee chairman Lindsey Tucker Jr. told Gorres? US promoter, the Golden Boy Promotions, and Darchinyan?s promoter Garry Shaw Promotion, to polish the deal before Nov. 8.
If both promoters can not come to terms, the IBF will order a purse bidding, which means any promoter who bids the higher purse will get the promotional right. The winner of the contest will get the mandatory status to fight newly-crowned IBF super flyweight champion Dimitri Kirilov of Russia.
Gorres, the IBF Intercontinental super flyweight champion, is currently ranked No. 7 and Darchinyan, the former IBF flyweight champion, is No. 6.
Above them in the list of top contenders are Mexican Martin Castillo at No. 3, American Jose Navarro at No. 4, and Thai Pramunsak Posuwan at No.5. Positions 1 and 2 are vacant.
Unconfirmed reports said that both promoters are willing to negotiate, probably starting today.
Gorres is looking forward to fighting the 31-year-old Darchinyan, who is scheduled to fight on Dec. 1. The latter recently captured the IBO 115-lb. title after beating Filipino Federico Catubay by TKO on the 12th round.
The 25-year-old Gorres, who had a heart-breaking split decision loss to Fernando Montiel of Mexico for the WBO 115-lb. title, vowed not to make the same mistake as he continue his chase for the elusive world title.
Both fighters parade a very glamorous boxing record. Gorres totes a 27-2-1, 15 KOs record while Darchinyan a 29-1, 23 KOs slate.
If the negotiation prospers, the fight is slated to be on the first quarter of next year.
