Vic Darchinyan and Z Gorres will stage the Fight Of The Year according to Darchinyan?s agent Angelo Hyder.
He says Darchinyan sees the bout as one of the most important in his career and respects Gorres as a tough warrior . The fight is mooted for December 1 at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut where Danny Green is scheduled to face IBO light-heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver and Darchinyan?s conqueror Nonito Donaire is slated to defend his world flyweight titles against Luis Maldonado, a Darchinyan KO victim.
“Vic knows Gorres is a strong southpaw with a big punch, a bit like Vic himself,?? Hyder said.
“Gorres also has a first round KO over Glenn Donaire, Nonito?s brother, who also fought Vic for the world flyweight title.
“Gorres lost a very disputed decision to Fernando Montiel for the WBO super-flyweight title and is obviously one of the best fighters in the world at 115lb.??
The IBF has mandated that Darchinyan and Gorres can fight an eliminator for the IBF super-flyweight title which Russian Dimitri Kirilov won last week against Jose Navarro in Moscow. “Vic has been promised that a win over Gorres will catapult him into a fight with Kirilov,?? Hyder said.
“Vic is originally from Armenia, his wife is Russian, and so a fight with a Russian world champ in Moscow would be a huge event.
“There is so much riding on this fight with Gorres that you will see Vic give the performance of his lifetime.??
Darchinyan is 29-1 (23 KOs), Gorres is 27-2-1 (15 KOs). Darchinyan said he was happy with his 12th round stoppage over Filipino Federico Catubay in Sydney on Saturday night despite some criticism that he should have stopped his outgunned challenger earlier.
“I showed that I do not have to rush,?? Darchinyan said. “I took my time and was always in control.??
