Jerwin Ancajas’ coach has taken extra measures to make sure the world junior bantamweight champion will be 100% healthy during his US debut against Israel Gonzalez next month.
In his fight in Belfast, Northern Ireland, last November, the Filipino champion battled through cough and cold before he stopped Jamie Conlan in 6 rounds.
Coach Joven Jimenez said the chilly Belfast weather affected Ancajas? health.
?Tinitipid namin ang suntok nu’n sa Belfast kasi nagkasakit siya before the fight. Inubo siya, sipon. Pinainom namin ng gamot kaya medyo iba pakiramdam niya,? Jimenez said.
They don?t want a repeat of that when Ancajas fights in his most important bout to date on February 3 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Texas? temperature in February (which hovers in the high-teens Celsius) is not as cold as Belfast when Ancajas was there in November (which could have gone as low as single digits). Corpus Christi’s temperature might be closer to Baguio.
Jimenez said his group is making sure that Ancajas will be acclimated properly to the cold.
?Ngayon ang magagawa namin binababad namin sa aircon para makasananyan niya ‘yung lamig,? he said.
