If you have ever listened to ?The Jungle,? Jim Rome?s nationally syndicated and highly opinionated AM sports radio show, you are familiar with the word ?moratorium.? Back in the mid-1990s Rome would put a hot button or low brow sports topic on moratorium when the listeners had run it to the ground and discussed it from every possible angle.
Unfortunately I am not sure if Rome still puts the brakes on certain topics once they have run their course, as I no longer have the opportunity to listen to AM radio during the morning hours.
Still, I like the spirit of the moratorium and officially calling a moratorium on Manny Pacquiao here at Boxing Confidential. In no shape, way, or form will I deny the interesting angles that arise from following Pacquiao?s every move and then speculating on their importance and meaning. The man is exciting in and outside of the ring.
But at some point in time Michael Marley?s Boxing Confidential must return to being just that Michael Marley?s Boxing Confidential and not Manny Pacquiao?s Boxing Confidential.
So dear readers, message board posters, and comment providers, lets give Manny Pacquiao a deserved rest. If you are a supporter of Pacquiao, show us that you know and love the sport boxing, regardless of Manny Pacquiao?s participation.
Let the little ball of fury alone and visit our message boards to discuss the sweet science. There is a lot of good boxing ahead of us this year yet, with Mikkel Kessler challenging Joe Calzaghe?s reign as super middleweight monarch and Ricky Hatton taking a charge at pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather.
So for now, Mr. Marley, his friends and foes, please, NO MORE MANNY for a few days!
