International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight titleholder Jerwin Ancajas, who successfully defended his belt for the third time, said the boxing achievements of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao are very hard to match or even surpass.
Reacting to various reports that he?s going to be the ?next Pacquiao?, the 25-year-old Ancajas (28-1-1 win-loss-draw record with 19 knockouts) said there?s only one Pacquiao and no one can come close to what he has achieved as a fighter.
?No one can match sir Manny. I want to emulate him as a boxer and considering me as the next Pacquiao is really a big pressure. Now, I have to prove that in my fight in the US,? the Panabo Davao del Norte boxer said.
Ancajas has improved his knockout punching prowess after crushing his three challengers ? Jose Alfredo Rodriguez of Mexico last January in Macau, China, Teiru Kinoshita of Japan last July 2 in Brisbane, Australia and Irish Jamie Conlan last November 18 in Belfast, Ireland ? that drew him comparisons with the young Pacquiao.
But his manager, Joven Jimenez, said his ward remained humble since winning the IBF belt September last year via unanimous decision against Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo.
?Those knockouts were not planned. I just worked hard to win the fight,? said Ancajas, who returned to strength and conditioning training last week in his camp in Imus, Cavite.
Top Rank Promotion chief Bob Arum was also impressed with Ancajas? showing and guaranteed him with a fight in the US soil in early February next year.
Although according to website boxrec.com that his fourth title defense will be against Israel Gonzalez (21-1 record with eight knockouts) of Mexico on February 3 next year, Ancajas said there is nothing definite yet on his next fight.
