According to two-time world champion Jessie Vargas, he will return to the ring on December 15 and will do so for the first time in years without the support of his promoter for the last few years, Top Rank.
As BoxingScene.com reported several weeks ago, Vargas left Top Rank and then reaching an agreement with Al Haymon and attorney Guadalupe Valencia.
Vargas indicates that he will return on a card being career by FOX, against Aaron Herrera in Lancaster, California. He says Ivan Redkach would also appear on the show.
Vargas (27-2, 10 KOs) has been out of the ring for over a year, since losing a twelve round decision and his WBO welterweight title last November to Manny Pacquiao.
“I am very happy to be back. The date is December 15 and we are already in preparation. I have my advisors, my representatives, who are negotiating for me, Guadalupe Valencia and Al Haymon, who are in charge of my career and I am very happy with the step I took,” said Vargas to ESPN Deportes.
“I am at the best point of my career, I am happy and physically at the best possible moment. I am 28 years old and I feel whole, hungry, strong and with the dream of being world champion again.”
“Now is my time to achieve success and teach people what I’m made of and come and give them a great night of boxing. It has always been my goal to satisfy my fans and on December 15 nothing will change. I come to give a show to my people on the way to another world championship. I already went there twice and I’m going for another.”
One of the reasons why Vargas opted for Haymon, was because the powerful adviser works with most of the top welterweights like Keith Thurman, Errol Spence Jr., Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia and several others.
“You have to keep in mind that when signing with Al Haymon and Guadalupe Valencia, apart from the good judgment of being with them, it’s also where the best welterweight fights are at and I’m here to give them good fights against the best, since I’m one of the best,” Vargas said.
