INDIANA — Although the 2017-18 NBA regular season officially opens today in two different venues around the league, the Chicago Bulls won’t begin their season until Thursday.
But things already got exciting in the Windy City.
As first reported by Shams Charania of The Vertical, small forward Nikola Mirotic was taken to a hospital after a “cheap shot” from teammate Bobby Portis during practice. Mirotic, according to ESPN, suffered a bone fractures and a concussion. He is out indefinitely.
The Bulls are reportedly evaluating sanctions on Portis, who averaged 6.8 points and 4.6 rebounds in 64 games with the Bulls last season. Portis is entering his third season in Chicago after the 6-foot-11, 246-pounder from Arkansas was taken as the 22nd pick in the 2015 NBA draft.
Mirotic, 26, had just signed a two-year $27 million dollar deal to return to Chicago, which lost a slew of players including Jimmy Butler, Rajon Rondo, Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott.
