FILIPINO star Nonito Donaire Jr. and bright up-and-comer Ronero Duno were victorious in the US yesterday after pulling off convincing unanimous decisions.
Coming off a long layoff following a loss to Jessie Magdaleno, Donaire Jr. dominated prospect Juan Garcia Hernandez at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
The 34-year-old Donaire Jr. got the nod of all three judges with scores of 100-90, 97-93 and 99-91.
Donaire Jr. claimed the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight strap and improved to 38-4 with 24 knockouts. The current WBC featherweight king is Gary Russell Jr.
The 24-year-old Hernandez dropped to 22-3-1 with nine knockouts.
Duno, on the other hand, beat experienced Juan Pablo Sanchez at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
All three judges were in unison with identical scores of 78-74 for the 21-year-old prospect.
Duno is now 15-1 with 13 knockouts, while Sanchez fell to 30-14 with 14 knockouts.
Duno is trained by former world champion Rodel Mayol at the Wildcard Gym. He’s being managed by Sanman Promotions and is being promoted in the US by Oscar dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. (EKA)
