GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — The mother of boxing champion Manny Pacquiao was brought to the hospital on Tuesday due to difficulty in breathing.
Dr. Lamberto Chomi of the St. Elizabeth Hospital here said that Dionisia Pacquiao’s case is stress-related.
Chimo, Dionisia’s attending physician, told reporters he suspected the stress was related to Manny’s fight against Mexican boxer Marco Antonio Barrera last Sunday.
As of this posting, Pacquiao is expected to arrive Thursday, not Friday as earlier reported.
Dionisia attended a Mass on Sunday prior to the fight, which was staged in Las Vegas.
When she got home, she led her friends in a two-hour prayer session held at the Pacquiao house in the village of Lagao here.
She only stopped when told that Manny had defeated Barrera.
Chimo said after the fight, Dionisia also became the object of several interviews by journalists.
When she was rushed to the hospital, Chimo said that they gave Dionisia oxygen.
He said Dionisia’s condition was now stable and she would be released from the hospital soon.
“I already advised her to take enough rest and to avoid stress and too much excitement,” Chimo said.
