With Morales V Barrera 111 linked, inked and confirmed for November 27th and dubbed “Once and for all”, Manny Pacquiao will have to bide his time to then fight the winner, according to WBC Executive Director Mauricio Sulaiman.
Manny who’s already stopped Barrera and fought a thrilling draw with Juan Manuel Marquez has earned a meeting with Morales, but while Barrera is currently ranked two in the WBC featherweight rankings, and will step up one division to fight Erik, Manny is nowhere to be seen in those listings.
Mauricio said: “Manny Pacquiao is a former WBC flyweight champion and he was a WBC international champion, so he has a long relationship with our organization. Destiny brought him to the IBF. We would welcome Manny to fight for the WBC title, because he’s a great fighter, we respect him very much and we would love to see him fight a WBC champion.”
He also urged patience and prudence saying: “We hope that Manny is a little bit patient, and he waits for the opportunity and does not commit to another fight in which he could risk loosing instead of going to fight the winner of this match.
But concerning Manny’s chances of de-throning “El Terrible,” at super feather, Mauricio habors few doubts. He commented: “With all due respect to all the boxers in the world, I don’t see anyone beating Erik Morales. He’s in his prime, he has power, tremendous boxing skills and also heart. So I don’t see anyone defeating him in that division right now.
“Erik has gone the distance a number of times. He is very patient and is not desperately looking for a knockout. I don’t think Pacquiao can match his boxing skills. But he can match Erik for power, so there will be opportunity to get this factor into the fight. Erik possesses great boxing skills so this could work as a disadvantage to Manny leaving him open.”
Mauricio also said a clash betweem Erik and Manny would spark some real full blooded exchange fireworks. He agreed:” Absolutely, because Erik has Mexican blood and once he’s hit he’ll try to retaliate.”
