REASONS FOR NON-KNOCKOUT & UD 12
Las Vegas, NV- When I was prodding the knowledgeable people within my boxing circle this week on the Manny Pacquiao-Marco Antonio Barrera rematch, all but one had predicted a Pacquiao KO. The lone holdout, Hector Martinez, one-time manager of Roberto Duran, and a two-time amateur champion, was almost psychic in his prediction. ?Barrera will fight only to not get hurt. He just can?t match Manny in many areas, speed, punching power, being a southpaw, it?ll go the route as Barrera won?t be fighting to win, rather to survive.?
ONLY ONE GUY TRIED TO WIN FIGHT!
Anybody that witnessed the 12 rounder live at the Mandalay Bay or on Pay Per View, has to admit what Martinez described above is the way it went down. No knockdowns, nobody staggered, just one guy in Pacquiao, who may not have been in truly ?primed? condition, trying in vain to hurt a guy whose only concern was not to. The scores after 12 heats, 118-110 twice and 115-112 (what fight was he watching?). Barrera, now 63-6, 42 KOs, after losing in his previous outing to Juan Manuel Marquez, he knew this was all about one last great payday, nothing more, nothing less!
OVERALL, 12 ROUNDER DID NOT DELIVER!
As for Pacquiao, the fiery Filipino was the aggressor and won almost every round, with the exception being the fifth, a session of battle where Barrera showed a little fire in his belly. But that fire, a mere pilot light compared to the fistic furnace that used to be Barrera, was short lived as Manny snatched back any momentum Marco may have gained.
WAS BRAIN BLEED WORRYING MARCO?
Most of you don?t know that Barrera had a blood vessel in his brain go haywire many years ago. It caused headaches and the like for Barrera who had brain surgery, in which his skull was cut open, the damaged blood vessel was addressed, this before the Mexican surgeons patched his head up with a titanium plate. Whether it was repaired in surgery or not, Marco had a brain bleed, or a subdural bleed, had his skull opened up and then put back together. Aren?t these the same folks that tried to prevent Joe Mesi from fighting?
BARRERA-MESI=NEVADA?S DOUBLE STANDARD
Mesi suffered a minor subdural in a 2004 fight with Vassiliy Jirov. Having talked with Dr. Robert Cantu, considered the top brain surgeon in the country by some, he finds it preposterous that Nevada won?t allow Mesi to fight. And yet, they allow Barrera who lied to the Nevada Commission by not stating his true medical condition, to fight time and again after learning about such.
TOOK MESI?S BEST YEARS AWAY DID NSAC
Let me repeat that in case you missed the gist. Mesi suffers a bleed that Dr. Cantu described as ?minute spec? on an ex ray. It healed itself. There was no intrusive surgery, nobody cut bleeding blood vessels in Joe?s brain and then patched him up by putting a titanium plate in his forehead. And yet Mesi can?t fight in Nevada! But Barrera, who has generated millions of dollars for the state, has been allowed to fight even after his medical condition was leaked to the press by his former handlers.
SECOND REASON THERE WAS NO KO!
Having been thrashed by Pacquiao almost four years ago, Marco had never endured such a beating. With that brain injury part of the history, he realized that if anybody had the pop and speed to injure him severely, or maybe permanently, it was Manny Pacquiao. And no matter how much money was involved, Barrera could not afford to gamble by standing and fighting Pacquiao. In other words, trying in this instance wasn?t worth the possibility of dying in battle. Adios Marco. While it?s been fun, Pedro says it is time to stick a fork in you as you?re done!
