Many were surprised that Barrera made the distance against Manny last night. The win was comprehensive, though less impressive than the blasting Pacquiao performances that boxing fans have grown to expect. Much like Tucker lasting the distance against Tyson by disengaging from the pocket with footwork and going strictly defensive, Marco fought a very controlled, very limited fight in hopes of a dodgy decision or lucky punch opportunity.
Tyson never got enough credit for staying patient and piling up the points. Same deal with Manny who rightly is also the most exciting fighter in the 3rd millennium.
I have my doubts if the Marquez camp really wants a bout with Manny. Clearly they have to take short money now which may be too much humiliation given they turned down 3/4 million for an immediate rematch with Manny to fight John in Indonesia for 35 grand.
Rocky Juarez is the only other topical bout for Manny unless he moves up to fight Juan Diaz for the lightweight title, a hurdle too far for Manny IMO.
What say you chaps?
