LAS VEGAS ? Word flew out of Manny Pacquiao?s camp Thursday that he was three pounds over the limit.
But there?s really no one sounding off the alarm yet. Not the trainer, Freddie Roach, not the boxer himself.
?I?m okay,? Pacquiao said on his way to the IBA Gym earlier in the afternoon for his final day of workout for Saturday?s big fight.
He assured that there?s no problem with his weight.
Someone from within said the boxer was three pounds over the super-featherweight limit of 130 the day before the official weigh-in.
The weigh-in is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. at the Events Center, the venue of the bout. It is open to the public.
Pacquiao, it was also said, was ?a little cranky? as he spent the rest of the day in his luxurious penthouse suite at Mandalay Bay.
But it?s quite understandable for someone whose food intake has been practically cut off the day before he tips the scales.
Roach, at the gym, said Pacquiao is well within the weight limit.
?He?s pretty light. You can see it in his face,? said the guru.
In fact, Roach said he?s even worried that Pacquiao may be ?a little bit too light.?
Roach said he told his boxer ?not to lose too much weight because you already look a little gaunt.?
Pacquiao?s cheekbone is more prominent now than when he set foot in this gambling capital last Monday.
?Manny knows his body (weight) by holding his wrist, and he told me he?s 30 (130) or 31 (131) right now. It?s pretty accurate,? said Roach.
Wednesday, inside his suite, Pacquiao gripped his right wrist with his left hand then finished a cup of warm milk, a little bread and a big green apple.
Another trainer, Filipino Nonoy Neri, said Pacquiao is in great shape.
?Manny had pinakbet (sauted vegetables), beef soup and rice. But that?s all for the day, except for a couple of hard-boiled eggs in the evening,? he said as Team Pacquiao headed to the gym.
?The next time he eats will be after the weigh-in,? Neri added.
It sounds like there?s no problem with the weight ? at all.
