Las Vegas Diary: Leg room

LAS VEGAS – When I checked in at a kiosk for my flight, the automated machine asked if I was interested in a seat with more ?leg room.?

More leg room? Oh yes! I almost heard myself yell.

But when I learned that the privilege would cost $44, I quickly said, ?Oh, no!?

For $44, I demanded a pedicure, a manicure, and at least two cocktails. But the machine wouldn?t provide such things, so I settled with my assigned seat.

Even with less leg room though, I still managed to get here via United Airlines flight number 1587 at 10:03 am yesterday. At a cruising altitude of 34,000 feet, the jet chewed 1515 miles in three hours and 25 minutes.

I sat on Seat 2A, sandwiched between two stiffs.

On my left was an old guy with silver hair and a flaming red shirt.

He drank a Bloody Mary and read a book called ?Liberated Skies.? He uttered a grand total of five words the entire flight.

On my right was a young teenager who was wrapped in a tidy Ralph Lauren sweater. She, too, lost herself on some novel. She didn?t say anything at all, not even one lousy vowel.

I viewed the in-flight movie, Ocean?s 13. I?ve seen this flick before, but I didn?t mind watching it again largely because of Ellen Barkin, one of hottest chicks in our inter-planetary system.

I?m still dreaming of the day when gorgeous Ellen knocks on my door and politely demands, ?ravage me.?

Anyway, I go to the Mandalay Bay at about 11 a.m. I proceeded to the media center tucked in the belly of the massive five-star resort.

Since there were no media functions, the press center was dead as All Saints? Day. But I lingered in there for a while, took notes, browsed the Internet and caught up with some friends.

At 4:30 p.m., I went on air with Leo Lastimosa at dyAB, where I would do a live fight coverage this Sunday. After my segment, I grabbed a bite to eat, chugged a Budweiser, before finding shelter.

It was 8:30 p.m. when I arrived at my temporary home here. I slouched in the couch, drank two canned beers, and lose consciousness.

I woke up at 2 a.m. I was sober as Cardinal Vidal. And that?s good news to my editors, Mike Limpag and Januar Yap, who will lay-out the ton of articles I submitted for today?s issue.

Day 1 is done. Four more to go. So far, so good.
