Floyd Mayweather Snr threatened to ‘knock the f*** out’ of Conor McGregor ahead of his fight against his son.
The bad blood between McGregor and the junior Mayweather had been building even prior to the official confirmation of the highly anticipated August 26 bout between the pair.
And the beginning of their press tour gave them an opportunity to meet face-to-face in public for the first time, which they did at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
After the joint press conference, Irish UFC icon McGregor held a briefing of his own.
But Mayweather Sr decided to attend and was not happy with what McGregor was saying, as the 28-year-old threatened to turn the boxing match into a mixed martial arts-style encounter.
The veteran former boxer decided to interrupt what McGregor was saying.
He shouted from across the room: ‘If you do it, your ass will be sued. And you boxing, that’s what you’ve gotta do. We’re going to beat the s*** out of you.
McGregor replied, ‘I’ll have the money after the fight… so sue me,’ before laughing and continuing: ‘We’re having a fight mate, don’t get your lawyers after me.
‘Senior, senior, senior… tell him as long as he speaks my name with respect, I will abide by the boxing rules. I will abide by the marquess of Queensbury rules. If he disrespects me during this build-up, maybe I’ll just bounce one off his eyebrow.’
Mayweather Sr responded: ‘If you do, then I’m going to knock the f*** out of you.’
After miming a punch, the older man added: ‘I scared you right then’.
The 64-year-old was then pulled away from the scene as McGregor suggested that he would ‘strangle’ Mayweather if he dipped his head during their fight.
