Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is predicted that his star fighter, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, will score a knockout victory in the late rounds of Saturday’s fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
The fight, which takes place at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds, will go down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. HBO Pay-Per-View will distribute the event.
“I think it’s going to be a strong fight in the first few rounds with a lot of action – and then a knockout in the last few rounds,” De La Hoya said to ESPN Deportes.
The entire arena has been sold out for several weeks.
De La Hoya is not surprised by the strong support that came in from the boxing public, especially when two Mexican boxers are matched against each other on Cinco De Mayo weekend.
“I’ve always said that when you have two Mexican warriors, people will come out to show their support because they recognize that it’s going to be a great fight, it’s going to be a lot of action, it’s what the people want to see. I am in this sport, as a promoter, to help the sport grow and these fights are pure emotion,” De La Hoya said.
Although he declined to predict just how many buys the pay-per-view will do, he says it’s a very good sign that tickets sold out quickly and that closed-circuit venues across the United States have experienced high ticket sales.
“I think people recognize that it’s going to be a great fight and that’s why tickets sold out. Closed circuit is selling very well,” De La Hoya said. “And we expect the pay-per-view……. while I do not think it will break the Mayweather-Pacquiao record….. it will be high,” De La Hoya said.
“It has a potential [to do a high pay-per-view number]. It’s a big event, and when the tickets run out it’s a great indication and now that the closed-circuit tickets are selling very well – that tells me that the pay-per-view is going to be pretty high.”
