CARSON, CA -- Oscar Valdez Jr of Mexico retained his WBO featherweight belt with a unanimous decision victory of Miguel Marriaga of Columbia in the main event of the Top Rank triple world championship at the StubHub Center here Saturday night.
Valdez (22-0-0, 19KOs) dropped Marriaga (25-2-0, 21KOs) in round 10 but could not finish the Columbian. The scores were 119-108, 116-111 and 118-109 in favor of Valdez. The fight was a give and take with Marriaga landing his share but Valdez landed the heavier ones.
In the post fight interview, Valdez said he wants to fight WBA champion Leo Santa Cruz next to unify the titles.
