Beibut Shumenov, the WBA cruisherweight interim world champion by virtue of his victory last July against BJ Flores was set to defend his title on the April 29th at the Sam?s Town Live in last Vegas that was set to be seen on PBConFS1.
However, word has it that Shumenov (17-2-0, 11KO) suffered and eye injury during sparring that needed an emergency surgery thus, the fight with the undefeated Yurnier Dorticos (21-0-0,20KO) is off until possibly in June at the earliest.
The winner of Shumenov-Dorticos is expected to take on Russian southpaw Denis Lebedev, who holds the 200-pound ?super? world title.
?I?ve been in the gym working hard since my last fight," Shumenov said. ?I have been ready this entire time to defend my belt against anyone who is willing to step up."
Unfortunately for the classy champion from Kazakhstan who now makes Las Vegas his home, has to wait until his eye injury heals.
