Heavy sparring caps RP training

As Manny Pacquiao prepares to wind up his training in the Philippines, his chief trainer, Freddie Roach, already knows exactly what to do once the Filipino boxer arrives in Los Angeles on Sept. 22.

Roach said Pacquiao will do another 12 rounds of sparring today at the Rex ?Wakee? Salud Gym in Cebu City. Last Monday was the first time he did 12 rounds in more than five weeks of training.

?Then we start tapering off. Tomorrow should be the last 12 rounds of sparring. On Friday it will be around eight to 10 rounds, then we fly to Manila in the afternoon,? Roach said yesterday.

?We?re doing very, very good,? he added. Pacquiao, who faces Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas on Oct. 6, will work out at the Wild Card Gym in Para?aque on Saturday afternoon. As of Monday, he has logged 90 rounds of sparring.

On Saturday evening, they all fly to Los Angeles. Pacquiao arrives in LA on a Saturday, and will take a rest the following day. Then it?s back to work at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood for another week of training.

?Manny will spar eight rounds on Monday, six on Wednesday and four on Friday in LA. Then we move to Las Vegas either on Saturday or Sunday after the morning mass,? said Roach.

A press conference is scheduled next Thursday in LA.

Once again, Pacquiao has decided to take a four-hour, 300-mile drive to Las Vegas as he?s done for his previous fights in Sin City, including those against Erik Morales.

In Vegas, Pacquiao will train from Monday to Wednesday at the IBA Gym. This will cap his program for the Oct. 6 fight as Thursday will be spent on a ?walk-around? and another presscon.

Friday is the official weigh-in, and the following day, is fight time

?That?s it. That?s how we?ll do it,? said Roach.
