INTERNATIONAL Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental super flyweight king Jonas Sultan will follow a cautious and technical approach in his first title defense against former World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro at the Makati Cinema Square Boxing Arena in Makati this Sunday.
?We have to watch out for his wild punches,? ALA Gym head coach Edito Villamor told SunStar Cebu. ?It depends, we will target either the body or the head.?
Villamor said that the 25-year-old Sultan won?t be going for the one-punch knockout because Jaro is a veteran and has devastating power in his fists. But if ever an opportunity comes, Sultan will go for the kill.
?Yes, but if there is a chance that he rocks him then we will be going to knock him out like what Jonas did when he won the belt in Africa against Makazole Tete, wherein he timed well a good punch and finished him off,? he said.
Sultan won all of his three fights last year by knockout, which was capped off by a second round stoppage of Tete.
The 34-year-old Jaro has been on a roll since a three-fight losing slump in 2012 to 2013. He has won his last nine fights.
Sultan is 12-3 with eight knockouts, while Jaro is 43-13-5 with 30 knockouts.
Fellow unbeaten fighters Cris Ganoza (12-0, 6 KOs) and Eduard Heno (9-0-4, 3 KOs) fight for the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight belt in the main featured bout.
Former Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) champion Roli Gasca(23-7-1, 7 KOs) returns from a long layoff to take on ex-WBC Youth Silver and WBC International titleholder Richard Pumicpic (18-8-2, 6 KOs) in a 10-rounder in one of the main fights.
