BOXING patron Antonio Lopez Aldeguer, known to fellow boxing enthusiasts in Negros and Bacolod City as ?Bidoy? Aldeguer, was in town during the weekend to promote the Sept. 30 title fight of Negrense pro boxer Donnie ?The Snakeman? Nietes in Cebu City at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
To the likes of Negros Amateur Boxing Association (NABA) head Monju Guanzon and company, including Vic Tan, Dodong Bascon, Em-Em Yap, et al, as well as lone district of Bacolod Rep. Monico O. Puentevella–all true-blooded boxing fans, every time Bidoy comes to town it?s like a sudden drop of rain on a parched summer such that despite the stormy weather we all trooped to Congressman Monico?s residence Sunday to listen to the latest boxing gospel from the one and only Bidoy Aldeguer, certified boxing guru.

The good news is: Aldeguer is forging a partnership of sorts with Congressman Newks and NABA?s Monju Guanzon to help develop Negrense boxers especially those who have the potential to become professional boxers.
These boxers will be chosen from among the many young amateur pugs now being discovered by the ongoing NABA program, which was recently adopted by the provincial government under Gov. Joseph Mara?on, and the forthcoming Monico Golden Gloves Bacolod inter-barangay tournament to be run by the congressional district office of Congressman Newks.
The bad news is: Bidoy cannot understand why we Bacole?os have made Manny Pacquiao an ?adopted son? but we cannot even welcome a returning Negrense world champion, our very own Gerry Pe?alosa, when he came home recently after he knocked down Jhonny Gonzales during the Mexico vs. Philippines World Cup of Boxing held in Sacramento, California.
But despite our seemingly distorted boxing sense, Bidoy has apparently not given up hope on the Bacole?os whom he considers as much better boxers compared to the Cebuanos in terms of skill and heart.
He just wants us to prove that we know how to take care of our own by at least doing our share in promoting the Nietes fight and, hopefully later on, his first title defense granting that he wins this crown on Sept. 30.
By the way, we wish to congratulate Toto ?Kompol? Arellano of Barangay 35 who was chosen by Aldeguer to train at the ALA stable in Cebu City for one month under the new partnership scheme forged between NABA and Aldeguer. If he does well he will pave the way for other Bacolod boxers to follow so we wish him all the luck.
