Pacquiao perfects power punch

MANNY Pacquiao has started to perfect the new weapon he is going to use against Marco Antonio Barrera on Oct. 6 (Oct. 7, RP time) at t Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada in the US.

As he sparred for 12 rounds against four of his hired sparring partners yesterday, Pacquiao was seen perfecting the deadly pun-ches he will be using when he sparred four rounds with the Mexican lightweight Raymundo Beltran Jr.

And just like the past sessions, the Pacquiao-Beltran exchange was pleasant and entertaining as both fighters packed heavy punches under their gloves.

Three rounds with Filipino super featherweight Aaron Melgarejo, the fight was an all out exchange of punches, but Pacquiao occasionally let Melgarejo attack his body.

It was also the same setting with Mexican lightweight David Rodela who also had three rounds with Pacman.

Last was welterweight Arnel Tinampay who only had two rounds yesterday.

Pacquiao tested his toughness as he tried to absorb heavy punches from a fighter who fights three weight classes above his.

As of yesterday, Pacquiao already completed a total of 90 rounds and within this week, before he closes his Cebu training camp, his American coach Freddie Roach is expected to add 22 more rounds of sparring.

At the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles, California, Pacquiao will continue to spar to complete the targeted 130 rounds.

And after the sparring sessions, Pacquiao again worked even harder at the double-ended bag, the speed ball and jumped-ropes before he made another grueling abdominal workout.

With the sight of the hard training yesterday, Pacquiao did not show any signs of being treated by Cebuano doctor Hans Potot last Friday night.

Dr. Potot was called to Pacquiao?s hotel suite last Friday after the Filipino boxing hero complained of labored breathing.

The boxing superstar was diagnosed to have acid in his stomach and some phlegm in his throat, but it was not worth worrying as Pacquiao acquired it in training.

Dr. Potot advised Pacquiao to eat his meals on time, gave him prescription for his phlegm and told to rest after training.
