You might as well refer to Keith ?One Time? Thurman as the king of the welterweights. Thurman (28-0-1, 22 KOs), the reigning WBC champion, earned a split decision victory over WBA champion Danny Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, to unify the welterweight title.
The judges at ringside scored the bout 116-112, 113-115 and 115-113 in favor of Thurman.
In just the second primetime boxing telecast on CBS since 1978, Thurman had his way with Garcia from the third round on in a dominant performance that left no question who the better fighter was this evening. With the win, Thurman remained undefeated while handing Garcia the first loss of his professional career.
