AFTER securing the Philippine Boxing Federation featherweight title in December last year in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Highland Bocing Gym?s boxer Jelbirt Gomera is up for another title shot on March 17 in Tokyo, Japan.
Gomera escaped fellow Filipino boxer Eduardo Mancito in December via unanimous decision to earn a shot at the vacant OPBF Bantamweight title against Hidenori Otake in a 12-round bout.
Otake, who is currently ranked 53rd in the superbantam weight category has an impressive 27 wins and lost only twice in 2007 and in 2014 via unanimous decision.
The 35 ? year ? old Japanese righty currently holds the Japanese superbantam weight title which he defended successfully for four times.
His 16 fight winning streak however went to a halt after losing to Scott Quigg in United Kingdom in November 2014 for the WBA world superbantam weight title via unanimous decision.
The Japanese boxer, who picked another five straight victories will be gunning for his third belt in his 32nd fight.
Gomera on the other hand seeks his third winning streak after stopping Mancito and Pablito Canada also in August last year for his 12 ? 1 win loss card with five knockouts.
But prior to his two fight – win – streak, Gomera suffered his first defeat in the hands of Mark Anthony Geraldo via a technical knockout in November 2015.
Gomera was enjoying a 10 – fight winning streak before his only loss to Geraldo.

Gomera?s bout against the Japanese slugger will be his first outside the country and will rely on his speed against Otake?s experience who boasts of 10 knockouts in his 27 victories.
