Filipino fighter Marlon Tapales will spend more than three weeks in Hong Kong to toughen up in preparation for the first defense of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight title in on April 23 in Japan.
Tapales? trip also serves as an opportunity to earn some dough as chief sparring partner of Rex Tso, the Hong Kong puncher is getting ready to fight for a regional crown on March 11 in the former Crown Colony.
Tso and Tapales have actually been working together in Cebu City the past few weeks and the Hong Kong puncher thought that importing the Filipino would enhance his chances of winning against Japanese Hirofumi Mukai.
?Their sparring sessions have really been intense and Tso felt that having Marlon as sparmate would help him win,? said Wakee Salud, who serves as Tapales? manager.
Salud reveals that there is an apparent lack of quality sparmates in his gym and travelling to Hong Kong would make up for it.
