CLEVELAND, Ohio – We are closer to the bout between middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Danny Jacobs.
The fight is scheduled for March 18 in New York but Jacobs, a native New Yorker, is training in Oakland. Jacobs is training with Virgil Hunter, the trainer of light heavyweight champion Andre Ward.
This means not only is Jacobs training with one of the best trainers in boxing but he will certainly spar and gain valuable insight with Ward.
But will time with Hunter and Ward be enough?
King of Kings: King of Kings Championship boxing will have fights Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Firebird Sports Complex (480 Northfield Road). Amateur bouts begin 7 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and championship fights 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Winners will receive a belt and crown. TV 20 will televise Sunday’s bouts. Advance tickets start at $10 for general admission to $50 for ringside. For information: 216 334-4480.
New award: More details are to come for a new award named after Devore “Bo” Whitt, a local promoter who died late last year. The award will go to a local amateur boxer who demonstrates commitment, pride, and resolve inside and outside of the ring.
