Mayweather has been highly rumored to make a comeback for his 50th professional fight, against everyone from Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner, to even UFC star Conor McGregor.
In a recent guesting on ?On the Ropes Boxing Radio?, the elderly Mayweather told Robert Brown not to get too excited about Floyd returning to competition. He says sometimes the multi-division champion just likes to string people along.
Last year, a potential bout between Mayweather and McGregor made headlines, after both fighters started calling each other out.
?Floyd was just toying with the media,? Jeff said. ?Floyd would get prosecuted for fighting Conor McGregor. It would be a fight that?s so easy, it would be ridiculous.?
McGregor is UFC?s biggest star and one of the highest paid fighters of all time. But while McGregor has banked in millions in his most recent outings, he still hasn?t gotten close to doing Mayweather numbers.
McGregor?s highest payday so far came against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 when he raked in over $3 million which included his win bonus and incentives from Reebok.
In stark contrast, Mayweather?s highest payday came against Manny Pacquiao in 2015, when he totaled nearly $200 million in a single night?s work, which included his guaranteed purse plus pay-per-view upside.
Jeff feels McGregor is just using Floyd?s popularity to further his own agenda.
?He (McGregor) wants to get paid, just like every other fighter that mentions Floyd?s name,? Jeff said. ?Every fighter that mentions Floyd ? it wasn?t about beating Floyd. It was about the payday.?
A bout between Mayweather, boxing?s biggest name and McGregor, MMA?s equivalent, would do insane numbers and would most likely shatter financial records?even the one set by Mayweather and Pacquiao.
Jeff however, says it?s all smoke and mirrors.
?I don?t think it was ever serious. I think they took the bait?hook, line, and sinker. They tried to build the UFC off of Floyd?s name,? Jeff added.
?People cried about Floyd fighting Andre Berto, who is a two-time world champion, and he (Mayweather) played with him. Now you?re talking about a guy who hasn?t had an amateur fight in 20 years. What chance does he have with any fighter??
One fighter who his uncle says Mayweather could have resumed his career over however is Pacquiao himself, but stated that the Filipino ring icon missed the boat when he didn?t pursue a rematch correctly. Although there are a few fans who continue to clamor for a Mayweather-Pacquiao do-over, Jeff believes that fight can no longer be made.
?The Pacquiao fight is not going to happen,? Jeff claimed. ?Because Pacquiao wasn?t man enough to just admit that he lost, without making up some bogus excuse.? ? Carlos Miguel Cinco
