Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum is travelling to Manila soon to determine what?s on the horizon for Manny Pacquiao, whose next fight has been pushed back to late-June 2017.
The date will depend on whether Pacquiao can take a break from his senatorial duties so he can focus during training camp, something Arum wants since the Filipino eight-division champion had encountered problems when he got ready for Jessie Vargas.
Arum, who turned 85 last Dec. 8, says a meeting with Pacquiao will be arranged as soon as he gets the Philippine Senate schedule for 2017.
?Once we get the schedule, we?ll set the date and pick an opponent,? said Arum, a Brooklyn-born Harvard-educated lawyer.
There is a number of possibilities for the 38-year-old Pacquiao, including unbeaten Terence Crawford, notes Arum.
But everything will hinge on Pacquiao?s schedule.
Arum had initially wanted to stage Pacquiao?s fight in May but other promoters are already finalizing megabuck matchups around that date, leaving the Top Rank chief without a choice but to junk the idea.
For the May fight to return in month of May, Pacquiao?s dancing partner should be Floyd Mayweather.
But Mayweather, who showed up at ringside to watch Pacquiao bring Vargas to school , insists that he remains retired and doesn?t have any plans of returning.
