Exclusive: Let?s face it, we?d all buy Mayweather v Pacquiao II ? Richard Schaefer

Ringstar promoter Richard Schaefer believes any Floyd Mayweather Jr. comeback would herald an immediate return to the summit of the sport for the long-reigning ex-pound for pound number one.

Schaefer worked alongside Mayweather for many years during his lengthy spell with Golden Boy Promotions before venturing out on his own earlier this year ahead of a debut show next month

Mayweather finally retired in September 2015 but was afforded a year?s grace at the top of the WBN Pound for Pound list before finally being overhauled by firstly Roman Gonzalez, followed by arch-nemesis Manny Pacquiao and more recently Andre Ward.

Despite not fighting for over fourteen months, the 39 year-old is constantly linked to a ring return, either in a crossover fight with Conor McGregor or a second helping of his record-breaking 2015 clash in Las Vegas opposite Filipino Senator Pacquiao.

Their meeting at the MGM Grand made $400 million plus and saw Mayweather pocket a tidy nine-figure sum, which many think is the main reason the ?Money? man will be back in action at some point in the future to build on his impressive 49-0 tally.

Following Pacquiao?s standout win over Jessie Vargas earlier this month, which Mayweather attended, attention immediately switched to the possibility of ?MayPac II? taking place in May of 2017 – once again at the sport?s capital in Nevada.

Asked his thoughts on the furore Mayweather tried to dampen by reiterating his retirement last week, Schaefer was in no doubt about the regard in which the American should be held.
