Floyd Mayweather was in New York to promote an upcoming fight ? just not his own. He also squeezed in a meeting with President-elect Donald Trump.
And it wouldn’t be a Wednesday without the UFC and Connor McGregor trying to use his name to make headlines.
? First, while speaking to reporters at press conference for the Badou Jack-James DeGale fight on Dec. 14, Mayweather maintained that he’s retired and isn’t considering a comeback.
“A lot of fighters in the sport of boxing may want to retire, but they have to fight because they have to,” Mayweather told USAToday. “I don’t have to fight.
“I just made $300 million for fighting Pacquiao. I’m OK. Like I said before, I’m happy with my position. Once again, the money don’t make me; I make money. I’m well off. I make smart moves, and like I said before, I’m happy with where my career has went.”
When Mayweather attended Manny Pacquiao’s win over Jesse Vargas earlier this month, rumors began to swirl a rematch was in the works for 2017.
? After the press conference, Mayweather met with our nation’s next president. Trump has been a longtime boxing supporter ? just not always one of Mayweather.
? And UFC champion McGregor still wants $100 million to fight Mayweather, and says the boxing star is “afraid of a real fight.” Yawn.
