Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said yesterday that the much-awaited pay-per-view numbers of Manny Pacquiao?s recent victory over Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas will be known Friday (Saturday in the Manila) or early next week, but the figures are not expected to create much sensation.
Speaking from Omaha, Nebraska, where the 84-year-old Top Rank chief presided over a media event starred by Terence Crawford, a likely future foe of Pacquiao, Arum is keeping his fingers crossed that the figures would be much better than the last one.
When Pacquiao fought in April, the third meeting with Tim Bradley, it only generated 320,000 subscriptions, a far cry from the massive numbers the Filipino drew during his heyday a few years back.
Mike Koncz, who has been serving as Pacquiao?s adviser the last 10 years, said he is not aiming for the stars.
?If we hit 400,000 PPV (buys), I will be very happy,? said Koncz. ?We did 320,000 on Bradley.?
Pacquiao?s biggest hit was against Floyd Mayweather Jr. when PPV totaled 4.6 million buys.
The other greatest hits of Pacquiao came against Oscar De La Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto.
Stakeholders are said to be laying the groundwork for a rematch between Pacquiao and Mayweather next year.
