CHICAGO -- If there is any doubt about former pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao's conditioning for his upcoming WBO welterweight championship fight against reigning champion Jessie Vargas this Saturday, the People's Champ put that to rest in recent days.
Since arriving from the Philippines to finish the last phase of his training in Los Angeles, the "Pambansang Kamao" has diligently followed his routine which begins with a daily jog from his home to eitherPan Pacific Prk or Griffith Park, a good few miles from his swanky home.
PhilBoxing contributor Rex Alba, himself a fitness nut who auditioned for the ultra popular American Ninja Warrior TV show here in the U.S., was among the few reporters granted access to Pacquiao's training. Alba ran with the champ for two straight days, beginning at the crack of dawn.
"He's in terrific shape. I am amazed at his stamina," Alba said.
Even more amazing is the crowds the champ draws for his workouts, a solid testament to his unwavering popularity.
The Pacquiao-Vargas tiff is this Saturday, November 5, at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. (HDS)
